#LegendsEdition: Bill Pettaway, From NapTown, MD to Grammy Award Winner

Updated: Aug 9, 2022

To go from working at a gas station in Annapolis, MD, to production on some of music's greatest songs and most noteworthy artists, could be described as the very definition of rags to riches.

Bill Pettaway was instrumental in the start of Toni Braxton's iconic career, when meeting her at a gas station in 1988. Pettaway was also the secret weapon to the Timbaland sound.

Most notably, Pettaway wrote the infamous international smash hit, "Girl You Know It's True", in which Milli Vanilli was most famous for.

Then there are production, writing and arrangement credits from the likes of Numarx, Timbaland, Jay Z, Justin Timberlake, Starpoint, The Braxtons, Missy Elliott, Ginuine, Busta Rhymes, Keyshia Cole, AZ and Bubba Sparxxx.

Bill Pettaway's humble beginnings could almost be seen in a Hollywood script. He was blessed to be in the right place at the right time, as well as putting in work when the opportunity presented itself.
